Funding · as of 01/10/2026

Get funding for windows, doors and sun protection.

For new windows and front doors, the federal government pays a grant of up to 15 percent. Here you can see which programmes exist, what you need to observe and what you might receive. Every figure names its source. The information applies to properties in Germany.

New since 21 July 2026: The iSFP bonus of 5 percentage points now applies only to the share of costs above €30,000 per residential unit. Older guides often still state up to 20 percent on all costs.

What is funded?

Measures and minimum requirements

A patio roof itself is not eligible for funding. External shading on the building envelope may be.

Patio roof, pergola, carport–Not a measure on the building envelope no

Existing buildings are funded. According to BAFA, the building application or notification must date back at least five years. Minimum investment: €300 gross per measure.

Procedure

Six steps to the grant

  1. 01

    Find an energy efficiency expert

The expert inspects your building, confirms the measures and supports the application. Approved experts are listed in the portal “Energy efficiency experts for federal funding programmes” (Energie-Effizienz-Experten für Förderprogramme des Bundes). Advice and planning may take place before the application.

  2. 02

Obtain a quotation and fix the products

With the configurator you define windows, doors or sun protection. We prepare your quotation from it. What matters is proof of the thermal transmittance values for the delivered element.

  3. 03

Apply before you place the order

The application must reach BAFA before an unconditional supply or service contract is concluded. The application includes a contract with a condition precedent or condition subsequent tied to the funding commitment.

  4. 04

Wait for the commitment, confirm the order

The grant notice starts an approval period of 36 months. Only now is the order safe.

  5. 05

    Installation and payment

Installation is carried out by a specialist firm. Pay by bank transfer and keep invoices and proof of payment.

  6. 06

    Submit proof, payout

The expert confirms the minimum requirements and the eligible expenses. You submit the proof of use within six months of completion. BAFA then pays out.

Common mistakes

What costs you the grant

The most expensive mistake comes first: ordering before applying.

Ordering before applying

An unconditional contract before the application counts as the start of the project. The grant may then be forfeited. Use a contract with a condition precedent tied to the funding commitment.

No energy efficiency expert

For building envelope measures, an expert is mandatory. Without one, the application is not approved.

Value not met

Windows with Uw above 0.95 or doors with UD above 1.3 are not eligible (special cases see table). Look at the value of the whole element, not only the Ug value of the glass.

Awning instead of roller shutter

Awnings, canopies and freestanding louvres are excluded. Sun protection parallel to the glazing on the building envelope is eligible.

Claimed twice

For the same measure, the BEG grant and tax reduction must not be used together. Anyone who claims both must expect a repayment demand.

Missed the deadline for proof

If the proof of use is submitted too late, the right to payout lapses.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about funding

How much grant is there for new windows and front doors?

For measures on the building envelope, the federal funding for efficient buildings (BEG EM) pays 15 percent of eligible expenses as a grant. For a single-family home, at most €30,000 per calendar year is taken into account, giving a maximum of €4,500. With an individual renovation roadmap (iSFP), the cost limit rises to €60,000. Figures as of: 01/10/2026.

Does the iSFP bonus still apply to all costs?

No. Since 21 July 2026, the bonus of 5 percentage points applies only to the share of costs above the normal limit of €30,000 per residential unit. An eligible investment of at least €30,000 gross is also required. For smaller projects the rate stays at 15 percent.

When do I have to apply?

Before the project starts. As a rule, the start is the conclusion of the supply or service contract. A contract concluded under a condition precedent or condition subsequent tied to the funding commitment is permitted. Planning and advice may take place beforehand. Anyone who starts before approval does so at their own risk.

Do I need an energy efficiency expert?

Yes. For measures on the building envelope an energy efficiency expert must be involved, as well as for the iSFP bonus. The expert prepares the application with you and, after installation, confirms the technical minimum requirements and the eligible expenses.

Which values must windows and doors achieve?

Windows, balcony and patio doors: Uw of at most 0.95 W/(m²K). Roof windows: Uw of at most 1.0. Exterior doors of heated rooms: UD of at most 1.3. For burglar-resistant windows and windows with special sound or fire-protection glazing, the guideline sets higher limit values; the expert checks this case by case.

Is external sun protection eligible for funding?

Yes, if it serves as summer heat protection and sits parallel to the glazing on the thermal building envelope, for example a roller shutter or venetian blind. Awnings, canopies and freestanding louvres are expressly excluded.

Is a patio roof or pergola eligible for funding?

No. Patio roofs and pergolas are not a measure on the building envelope within the meaning of the guideline. External shading on the building envelope may be eligible, but as a rule not for unheated extensions. The energy efficiency expert checks this case by case.

Can I combine the grant and tax relief?

Not for the same measure. Anyone using BEG funding may claim neither § 35a nor § 35c EStG for that measure. For several different measures, a split is possible. Have this clarified with your tax adviser.

Does the funding also apply to landlords?

Yes, all owners are entitled to apply, including companies and homeowner associations. The tax reductions under § 35a and § 35c, however, apply to owner-occupied flats and houses.

Is there a legal entitlement to the funding?

No. Approval is granted within the available budget at the authority's due discretion. The guideline states this expressly.

When is the grant paid out?

After installation and after the proof of use has been reviewed. You submit the proof within six months of completing the project. The approval period is 36 months from receipt of the notice. We cannot promise a fixed processing time.
